dc.description.abstract Pregnancy Induced Hypertension (PIH) is one of the most Common complications in pregnancy which affects pregnancies and contributes for a significant maternal land prenatal mortality. Several studies focusing on risk factors have been conducted in different parts of the globe and identified various risk factors for hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.These risk factors include socio-demographic variables such as personal and lifestyle factors, obstetric related factors, familial factors, and medical related variables. Specifically parity, extreme ages, obesity, a family history of pregnancy induced hypertension, previous history of pregnancy induced hypertension, gestational diabetes, were found to be associated with higher risk of developing hypertensive disorders in pregnancy. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among pregnant women with pregnancy induced hypertension at Teaching Hospital Batticaloa, between July– September 2021. A pretested, structured self-administered questionnaire was used to collect the data. Descriptive analysis was done using SPSS software v.25. A total 76 pregnant women with PIH participated in the study of which 35.52% of the pregnant women were in the age group of 36-41years and 6.58% (5/76) of participants were in equal or more than 42 years. More than half of participants (67.1%) were with high BMI (>25kgm2-). And also, parity was 2 in most participants (51.3%). There were less number of participants (27.6%) have had mother’s history of PIH, and there were 24.2% of participants were with sister’s history of PIH. 26.3% of participants were with GDP. Among multiparous participants (42.1%) were with personal history of PIH during their previous pregnancies. There were large number of participants (86.8%) were done nothing to maintain their physical fitness. Such as exercises, walking and yoga. And also, more than half of participants were house wives. Less number of participants (5.26%) have not gone to school, most of the participants have had formal education. There were 84.2% of participants had more than Rs.10,000.00 of household monthly income. And also 92.1%of participants had visited ANC monthly and most of the participants (92.1%) were followed medical advice properly. 94.7% of Participants were satisfied with health services that providing during their pregnancy. Educational programs concerning various aspects of prevention of risk factors of pregnancy induced hypertension should be implemented. en_US
