The influencing factors to choose a future life partner mong the medical students of Faculty of Health- Care Sciences, Eastern University, Sri Lanka within their academic tenure

Abstract

A life partner is a term commonly used to describe an intimate relationship between two people. Specifically, this term refers to a bond by which both individuals involved in the relationship commit to continue in the same relationship for a lifetime. Therefore, life partners are commonly referred to as husband and wife; spouses in a heterosexual marriage are in a lifetime relationship. Different person have different perception in choosing their life partner. They have to face many major decisions in their life. So they choose their life partner. In favour or against of which people can show many logic. Choosing life partner is such "kind of decision of which positive logics is stronger than negative ones. It largely depends on what "kinds of life partner one is going to choose. Life partner chosen in a befitting manner can be a person of dream in a person’s life. Life partner choosing tendency varies from person to person in respect of sex, economic status, family background, culture and academic quality and so on. (Saidy, n.d.) there very limited data available on relation between influencing factors on choosing a future life partner, academic performance among FHCS student therefore, we endeavour to put forward a study to evaluate the influencing factors on choosing a life partner among FHCS. The purpose of this study is generally to investigate influencing factors, academic performance and prevalence of choosing a future life partner among medical students of FHCS, EUSL based on the status of choosing a future life partner in FHCS during their academic tenure. A cross sectional institutional based study was conducted among all Medical students of the FHCS, Eastern University Sri Lanka (EUSL) from February 2022 to December 2022. 534 of participants were selected using complete enumeration method and an online data collection was carried out using a pilot tested and self-administered questionnaire. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences 25 (SPSS V.25) was used to enter and analyze the data. The prevalence of opinion about choosing a future life partner among the medical students of Faculty of Health Care-Sciences, EUSL, SL is 52.5%. The influencing factors to choose their future life partner are family influences, friend’s influences, social media influences and attractive factors more than half of the total number of the responders were having their opinion as their academic results will increase by having their future life partner as a medical student from FHCS, EUSL. Majority of students believe performance at clinical clerkship will increase by choosing a future life partner among the medical students of FHCS, majoring of the respondents gave the responses to think that choosing a life partner among the medical students will help to perform well in their higher studies.
