“Sleep hygiene” refers to healthy habits, behaviours and environmental factors that can be adjusted to help you have a good sleep. Adequate sleep is an important precursor to health, but students often do not prioritize adequate sleep above other responsibilities of university life.
The objective is to study the sleeping hygiene and its effects on the selected academic performance of students in Faculty of Health- Care Sciences, Eastern University Sri Lanka.
A Cross sectional study design was conducted among all students in Faculty of Health- Care Sciences, Eastern University Sri Lanka, as a complete enumeration using a self-online questionnaire. Variables were analysed using Version 25 (SPSS25). Continuous sleep pattern followed by majority of the participants 79.6%(n=293) and 20.2%(n=74) of participants were reported that they have intermittent sleep pattern. Among them majority of the participants 41.3% (n=121) were reported that they go to sleep at 12a.m. and 36.9% (n= 108) of the participants were reported that they wake up at 6a.m. Out of intermittent sleep patterns majority of participants 32.4% (n=24) were reported that they sleep during evening and mid night. majority of them 12.5%(n=) were reported that they sleep 6 hours intermittently. The results indicated no significant difference between sleep quality in achieved and unachieved academic performance. |
